Econ/Financial

Harry Dent’s insight into demographics, so often ignored at peril to one’s investment decisions, is essential and written in everyday language:

Dr. Art Laffer’s Inquiry into the Nature of the Wealth of States, rivals Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations for impact upon modern economics, yet Dr. Laffer’s work is more practical:

My own offering to individuals and families — even couples in conflict — to help with personal financial planning: The Secrets of Successful Financial Planning:

Since my entry into the insurance, securities, and financial planning industry back in 1986, I have relied frequently upon several publications and software packages by Stephan R, Leimberg and his associated authors. His most famous is the Tools and Techniques series of financial and estate professional reference series. Cryptozoology & Adventure

Superversive Press has hit several home runs in the last five years, from nonfiction to SF anthologies.  Here are a few of the most noteworthy, and you can click here for a video “trailer”:

Millhaven Press is at it again with another quarterly journal of adventure, nine authors contributing eleven thrilling tales of high and profound adventure:

My own offering:  The Pleistocene Redemption. It’s prehistoric terror in the 21st century. and more for deeper thinkers! Buyers note that vendors are out of both hardcover and softcover versions and most have not updated their Amazon inventory pages! Only the  eBook and some used books are available:

Tom Slick: True Life Encounters in Cryptozoology by (Professor) Loren Coleman. This fun biography will spark the imagination of anyone interested in “hidden” and rumored animals. It is a great start for further research. Slick was among the few serious no-nonsense research-adventurers collecting data:

Self-improvement, Masculinity & Femininity

MAGA 2020 & Beyond:  MAGA20B (for short) is a delightful assemblage of engaging satire, thrilling short stories and inspiring essay. Thoroughly entertaining and intellectually stimulating, it will give many on the Left teary eyes and revive their consciences; it will entertain readers of all persuasions. It’s only flaw is in giving, essentially, a “pass” concerning Mr. Trump’s personal foibles (one essay refers to him as a father figure (I’d never let him date my daughters). I agree, though, that we are fortunate to have this president, especially considering who we thought we’d have going into election night! But MAGA20B admirably shows the logic and loyalty — to America — of our president and the necessity and rectitude of reelection, or at least continuance of conservative leadership. MAGA20B is indeed a fun read and an underpriced gem:

Words of simple wisdom from a self-made man, Teddy Roosevelt:  The Strenuous Life. Get it and live it:

Feminism can be beautiful… if it God’s version! Donna Steichen’s Ungodly Rage is an insightful examination of both human and divine versions:

To Be Men: Stories Celebrating Masculinity:  Fathers can head off many problems if they challenge their sons and daughters to read To Be Men: Stories Celebrating Masculinity. ‘Persons’ on the Social Left will enjoy To Be Men: Stories Celebrating Masculinity for its pleasurably devised storytelling; it’s even got noted female (lady) authors and it might even motivate their acquisition of tools! This anthology offers fun, from a Sherlock Holmes tale to a rich essay on Feminism. So, I strongly recommend To Be Men: Stories Celebrating Masculinity; give it a try, you’ll enjoy it:

Sandy Jo Weston, M.Ed. applies decades of coaching and discovery to help you improve your fitness, organization, outlook and health:

Success is a Choice by Rick Pitino. This succinct and practical guide provides essential tips for sharpening your business and professional habits; read and take careful note:

Religion, Social Issues & spirituality

Christianity Among Other Religions:  Apologetics in a Contemporary Context by Roch A. Kereszty, O.Cist. Despite the title, this is a comparative religion text on the Master’s degree level.  The writing is very taut, void of boring diversions & opinions. Also, despite the title, it is informative and insightful in its treatment of non-Christian traditions and theology.

Return:  How to Draw Your Child Back to the Church by Brandon Vogt.  This book is the most useful and expansive (in terms of examining what breaks ties and hampers repair). It acknowledges that it is the Holy spirit who inspires and acts most powerfully.  Nevertheless, it explores authoritative research studies that can aid in understanding fallen-away teen and adult children, and provides proven tips for how a parent may nudge the child to return and also head-off losses of faith. This book can be useful for Jewish and Protestant parents, but not other religions because of its focus on the Judeo-Christian tradition.

Humor

O. Henry’s best short stories (every one is in this fine compendium).  I recommend first among these (one story in the anthology), “The Ransom of Red Chief” because it is his most hilarious! By the way, the first movie version of the same name (1997, starring Christopher Lloyd) was the best. Be sure to empty your bladder before reading or watching:
